Abstract

673,532. Hydraulic machines. NORTON CO. April 15, 1948 [May 10, 1947], No. 10468/48. Class 69 (ii) [Also in Groups V, XI and XII] A hydraulic ram, Fig. 3, for pushing batts 80 through a tunnel kiln (see Group XI), is controlled by a hand operated valve 206 through which water is supplied to either end of a cylinder 175, housing a piston 181 connected to the ram 159. The resulting exhausted water is delivered to a drain 207. The ram end of the cylinder is supplied and exhausted through a throttle valve 211 in parallel with a check valve 212 such that a quick idle stroke and a slow working stroke is effected. The batts 80 contact one another to form a train which is pushed through the kiln by the force applied to the last batt introduced and which thus pushes the batts ahead of it. Specification 637,628 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a hydraulically operated press. Fig. 1b (Cancelled) for forming grinding wheels within a stationary mould band p by means of upper and lower pistons and c. By using fluid discharged from the lower piston during its compressive stroke to displace the upper piston, equal and simultaneous compressive displacements of the pistons is caused. The upper piston has a plate ee with stops ii, downward movement of the piston being limited by the engagement of these stops with a member n supporting the mould band. The lower piston has stops hh limiting its upward movement by engagement with the plate ee. To remove the compressed wheel, valves zz and ss are reset to allow fluid to escape from the upper part of the upper cylinder h through a pipe yy and fluid to enter the lower part of the cylinder h through a pipe rr and thus raise the upper piston j. The lower piston is then free to continue its upward movement and so displace the compressed wheel from its mould. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
