Abstract

<PICT:0668319/III/1> A device for conditioning and dyeing yarn while being wound on to a package rotated by a drive roller of a winding machine has a wick holder which has a liquid supply for wetting the wick and is movably connected with the machine, periodically acting actuating means for moving the holder into and out of contact with the drive roller for intermittent application of liquid from the wick on to the drive roller for transfer to the surface of the yarn package, and a resilient member between the actuating means and the holder for pressing the wick into contact with the drive roller. Electric motor 1, through eccentric disc 2, push-rod 3 and lever 4, rotates shaft 5 which turns lever 8 and causes, through the pull of spring 7, the wick box 6, revolvably mounted on shaft 5, to rotate and bring wick 9 into contact with the drive roller 10, driving yarn package 18. The duration and frequency of contact may be varied by moving the motor on rails 11 and by changing the motor speed respectively. The liquid supply from reservoir 14 is fed by pump 13 to constant level tank 12 and thence through hose 19 into the wick case at a point opposite the portion of the drive roller which supports the thick end of cone 18 so that more liquid is available where required. If winding is interrupted the package is automatically withdrawn from contact with the drive roller and means are provided connected with this automatic withdrawal system to lock the wick case out of contact with the drive roller. Alternative actuating means including an intermittently energized solenoid regulated by a valve circuit to control the duration of contact and non-contact is described.
