Classes 86 and 117 [Also in Group XXX] A reciprocating conveyer which may be used as a sieve or as a mixing device in addition to a conveyer for granul a r material consists of an inclined conveying surface formed with steps and reciprocated so as to elevate the material from step to step, the steps being in the form of pockets of such form that the conveying surface of one pocket extends beyond the rearmost end of the next higher pocket, as measured in the general conveying direction, to form a lip. The pockets c, each having a lip x, are made of wire mesh so as to sieve the material and are enclosed in a casing b having a cover plate d. The casing is oscillated in an arcuate path in the general direction of the slope of the steps by means of an eccentric t and pivoted links n. o, which suspend the conveyer from fixed side walls or beams. Alternatively, the oscillations may be in a straight line. Material to be sieved and/or mixed, enters a hopper a at the foot of the conveyer and is repeatedly thrown against the cover plate which deflects it into the next higher pocket. At the top the material falls into a shoot p. The cover plate d may be curved in relation to each pocket to increases the deflection of the material. Dust passing through the wire mesh during conveying runs down a surface h to the foot of the conveyer. For mixing solids with liquids (or solids), e.g. for wet-immunizing grain, the immunizing or other liquid (or solid) may be led into the casing b through a pipe.
