Abstract
666,537. Turbines. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd. June 22, 1950. [Aug. 27, 1949] No. 22327/49. Class 110(iii). Turbine stator blades are so mounted that their radially inner ends are free for radial outward withdrawal but are located in other directions, while the outer ends are secured to rhomboidal-shaped platforms 25 which are clamped between an inner liner 26, which has holes to receive the blades, and a stator member 27 of channel section. An annular chamber is formed between the stator member 27 and the external ring 44 from which cooling air flows through the interior of the hollow blades to the annular chamber 17 formed between the ring 13 which locates the radially inner ends of the blades, and the co-axial ring 16, the air discharging through holes 18 on to the roots of the first row of rotor blades 20. The rotor shroud ring 39 is bolted to the rearward flange of the stator member 27 and has toothed connection at 46 with the ring 44 which supports the exhaust cone 43. The shroud ring is counter-bored to receive the inner liner 26. An abutment ring 50 is interposed between the external ring 44 and the wall of the combustion system 32, the ring having a tang 51 which abuts against the rearward flange 29 of the stator member 27, the rearward flange having a slot therein to accommodate the tang 51 during dismantling.
