Abstract

665,274. Anti-side-tone circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 18, 1949 [Nov. 22, 1948], No. 30248/48. Class 40 (iv). Sub-station sets make use of saturable reactors as voice operated switches. A receiver Rec, Fig. 3, is normally operative but when the sound received by a transmitter Tm exceeds a predetermined threshold level, a rectifier bridge BR1 applies direct current to the control windings A1, A2 of saturable reactors MSR1, MSR2 to reduce the impedance of the controlled windings B1, B2. B2 then has a large shunting effect on the receiver Rec, which becomes inoperative, and B1 increases the coupling between the transmitter and line. A modification, Fig. 8, includes a line balancing impedance X, the transmitter and receiver being in series and shunt respectively with the saturable reactors MSR1, MSR2. A low residual side tone exists. In Fig. 9, the line balancing impedance is replaced by a rectifier bridge BR2 which also feeds the saturable reactor, so reducing the power taken directly from the transmitter. Fig. 13 shows a 4- wire system, the output of a transmitter, before amplification, controlling the impedances of both outgoing and incoming circuits. Fig. 14 shows a 2-way radio link system in which receiver and transmitter are connected to a desk set and then by a 2-wire line to a hybrid circuit, the outgoing side of the 4-wire circuit leading through an echo-suppressor type voicooperated switch VOS to a radio sender and the return side of the 4-wire circuit coming from a radio receiver.
