[Also in Group XI] A cylindrical firebar has a depending flange along its length to enable the draught through a grate embodying a plurality of such firebars to be varied by pivoting of the firebars in unison, the bar being provided with an eccentric pivot so that it may be raised, lowered or laterally displaced. The cylindrical firebar 10 is provided with a depending flange 11 and eccentrically arranged pivot lugs 12 by which the bar may rest in sockets 20 disposed on opposite sides of a rectangular aperture in a grate frame 14. The lower edge of the flange 11 is provided with a control rod 13 which fits within one of a series of openings 21a in a control link 21. Several firebars 10 are equally spaced, in sockets 20, across the rectangular aperture, the rearmost firebar 10 fitting closely against the rear edge of the rectangular aperture. The position of the flanges 11 may be altered by sliding the control link 21 horizontally to rock the firebars 10 on their pivot lugs 12. The draught passing through the grate may be varied by altering the position of the flanges 11 or cut off completely by tilting the flanges 11 so that they close completely the spaces between the firebars. The control link. 21 may also be operated to shake the grate for ash-clearing purposes.
