664,640. Testing physical qualities of materials. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T., and HINDE, P. B. June 7, 1950 [June 9, 1949], No. 15345/49. Class 106 (ii). A chuck for use in a torsion testing machine has a central cylindrical bore 6 adapted to receive the end of a specimen 8 provided with opposed flats, the bore communicating with a pair of opposed parallel 'cylindrical bores 7, each adapted to receive a cylindrical key 9 having a flat to engage one of the flats on the specimen. To accommodate specimens of smaller diameter, a longitudinallyslotted sleeve is fitted into the central bore and the keys used have flats at greater distances from their axes.
