A process for agitating and weighing milk and cream with weighing devices having one or more weighing containers is characterised in that during or after the pouring of the milk into a weighing container the milk is stirred by means of a stirring device, after which stirring is terminated by stopping the stirring device or removing it from the container, and at the same time either a weight indicator which was previously locked is released, or a screen which previously obscured a weight indicator is removed, to enable the weight of the milk to be ascertained, the weight indicator being again locked, or obscured by the screen, when the stirring device is started again. Milk is poured into a weighing container 1, Fig. 2, where it is agitated by a stirrer 3 driven through a coupling 4, by a motor 5, and a sample is taken, through a pressure line 15, by sampling apparatus 14. A lever system 6, 7 is then operated by movement of a handle 11, firstly to lift the motor 5 and disengage the coupling 4, to disconnect the sampling apparatus, and to free an indicating device 2 of the weighing mechanism, then, on further movement of the handle 11 to open a discharge valve 9. Instead of disengaging the coupling 4 operation of the lever system may open the motor circuit. The stirrer may be driven through a disengage- :able V-belt drive. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5, the motor and stirrer are lifted by hydraulic or pneumatic piston means 37, 39, which also operate a lever system 44 to displace cover plates 45 of a weighing scale 34 so that the exact weight may readily be read. The stirrer may be lifted by mechanical means. One stirrer may be lifted by mechanical means. One stirrer may be used to stir successively the contents of two containers. Stirrers may be carried at opposite ends of a pivoted lever and moved so that only one container is stirred at a time.
