Abstract
662,372. Linear gauges. AKTIEBOLAGET C. E. JOHANSSON. June 20, 1949 [June 21, 1948], No. 16344/49. Class 106 (ii). In measuring devices such as gauge blocks having one or more reference surfaces exposed to wear, each reference surface has one or more grooves of a depth related to the permissible amount of wear of that surface, the amount of wear then being ascertained by inspection of the grooves. Figs 1 and 2 show a gauge block 1 having reference surfaces 2 and 3 provided with grooves 4 and 5. Fig. 4 shows a plug gauge 13 having a groove 14. Fig. 3 shows a gauge having three reference surfaces 7, 8 and 9 provided with grooves 10, 11 and 12, respectively. The grooves may be coloured. For gauges with opposite reference surfaces the maximum depth of the grooves is half the permissible wear of the gauge. For single reference surfaces, as in Fig. 3, the depth of each groove equals the whole permissible wear. The reference surfaces may have additional grooves of depths less than the said maxima.
