Abstract

662,288. Vehicle lamps. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. June 16, 1949. [July 3, 1948] No. 16052/49. Class 75(iii). A vehicle spotlight comprises a light unit 21, pivotal movement of which within its cover 14 is controlled by a shaft 31 rotatably mounted in a hollow shaft 19 which is secured to said cover and which is mounted on the vehicle for rotatable movement about an axis at right angles to the pivotal axis of the light unit, the cover being formed partly of transparent material. A spherical outer cover 14 for a sealed beam light unit 21 comprises two transparent halves 15, the edges 16 of which fit in grooves 17 in an encircling metal ring 18; the latter is integral with a hollow mounting shaft 19 which is rotatable in a bracket 34 secured to the fender 11 of a car. The light unit 21 is pivoted on opposed pins 23 secured to the ring 18, a groove 26 in the lower part of an encircling rim 27 being slidably engaged by a pin projecting inwards from the curved upper end of an actuator 29; the latter is secured to a control shaft 31 rotatable in the hollow shaft 19. On turning the lower part 61 of a control knob on the dashboard 47 the ring 18 and hence the light unit 21 and cover 14 rotate, the part 61 being secured to a hollow shaft 56, connected via gears 54, 52, a sleeve 43 and gears 48, 37 to the shaft 19. On turning the upper part 62 of the control knob, the unit 21 pivots within its cover 14. The part 62 being secured to a shaft 57, connected via gears 55, 53, a shaft 44 and gears 51, 41 to the shaft 31, rotation of which causes the actuator 29 to turn, so that the pin thereon slides in the groove 26 and results in pivoting of the unit 21.
