Abstract
661,150. Filters. FRAM CORPORATION. Oct. 20, 1949, No. 26979/49. Class 46 A filter for petrol comprises a head 10, Fig. 2. with inlet 11 and outlet 12, a glass bowl 17, an impervious shell 25 with a cap 26 open to a passage 14, and a filter element 31 made. e.g. from moulded cellulose fibre. Normally, the element 31 is forced by a spring 33 on to a seating formed by a gasket 30 resting on an inturned flange 29 of the shell 25; the edge. of a flange 32 on the element also closely engages the inside of a reduced part 28 of the shell 25. An indicator 40, Fig. 4, may have a flattened end 43 normally held between the gasket 30 and flange 32, so that when as a result of clogging of the element 31 and consequent pressure rise on the inlet side the element rises, the indicator falls and its weighted end 42 is visible through the glass bowl 17. The flange 32 must rise at least the length of the reduced portion 28 before the petrol pressure is relieved, thus ensuring complete release of the indicator. An alternative form of indicator. Fig. 6, comprises a metal flag 52 on a cord 51 having one end secured against the flange 29 by an integral projection 50 and the other end held between flange 32 on element 31 and gasket 30.
