Abstract
658,965. Control of several A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and CHOUDHURY, S. U. A. Dec. 12, 1947, No. 32824. [Class 38(iii)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] Where two or more A.C. machines having their polyphase secondary windings interconnected for synchronism when running or at standstill they may not experience sufficient synchronising torque if the interconnected winding systems of two machines are 180 degrees phase displaced. To ensure synchronism single-phase excitation is simultaneously applied to the primary elements at least one of which has a three-phase winding so that by a simple switching operation its field axis may be displaced by 30 degrees. Fig. 1 shows the primary windings 1, 3 of two slip ring motors adapted for three-phase excitation the secondary winding being interconnected. Single-phase excitation is first applied by closing switches 11a, 12a, a normally closed switch 14a placing a quadrature shunt on winding 3, so that the field axis of the two motors will be mutually displaced 30 degrees. A switch 15a is then closed to place a like shunt on winding 1 and bring the field axes into alignment. The motors will then have been pulled into synchronism and, to establish polyphase excitation, switch 13a is closed as switch 14a is opened. Specification 643,360 is referred to.
