Abstract
658,714. Textile drafting apparatus. ABBOTT, S. L. June 7, 1949, No. 15118. Convention date, June 30, 1948. '[Class 120(ii)] Fibre drafting, apparatus includes members having strand engaging surfaces, the members being reciprocable forwardly and backwardly in out-of-phase relation, so that the forwardly-moving area. of the surfaces predominates over the simultaneously backwardly-moving area and the members overlap to define a passage for the fibrous strand. The apparatus is preferably arranged between two pairs of drafting rolls and may comprise a mounting 15, a guide block 15a and strand or sliver engaging members 14, rearwardly constrained by springs 18 and forwardly moved in sequence by a cam 16 rotated by a belt. If desired, the mounting 15 may be rotated or oscillated to impart a false twist and may also be traversed longitudinally of the drafting rolls. The members 14 may be circularly disposed around a longitudinal axis or the sliver may not be completely enclosed. If desired, the apparatus may be employed without rear drafting rolls.
