Abstract

657,894. Exchange systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 31, 1947, No. 29100. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1946. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] Calls may be extended by radio from a toll board to mobile stations. Numbers dialled at the toll board are registered and transmitted as tone signals which are applied as successive modulations to a radio transmission. The dialled digits are registered on switches TH, H, T, U. An oscillator 31 associated with time constant networks 41 and the four register switches mark the networks so that four pulses may be transmitted successively with voice frequencies characteristic of the digits. Slow release relays are marked SR. When key 7 is operated relay 9 follows the impulses and relay 16 repeats them over a distributer RC to switch magnets 17 ... 20. The distributer is stopped when dialling relay 14 falls back during an interdigited pause. When the fourth digit has been registered, relay 22 is operated and the relays 27 to 30 operate and release in sequence to connect the marked networks 41 to the oscillator. Each relay operates only during the period of charge or of discharge of an associated condenser. As relay 30 falls back after the fourth digit, condenser 62 discharges through relay 24 which locks and completes a homing circuit for the distributer RC over the wiper B4 of the fourth bank. The register switches follow the distributer and return home in turn. The oscillator 31 is connected to a radio transmitter 57 through an amplifier 48 and contacts of relay 55. Relay 55 is operated as soon as the distributer moves off normal. To prevent the successive transmission of two pulses of the same frequency, corresponding terminals of the first banks of the register switches are strapped together. If the same digit is dialled successively relay 10 operates an alarm 65 and short circuits 27 to disable the oscillator. Receiving systems with means for detecting a call number transmitted in this manner are described in Specifications 630,815, [Group XL (c)], and 630,819, [Group XXXVIII].
