Abstract

657,320. Organs. HAYES, D. H. July 28, 1948, No. 20166. Drawings to Specification. [Class 88 (ii)] A reed organ is provided with a plurality of microphones arranged to pick up sounds of selected different frequency ranges of the organ, for amplification and reproduction by one or more loud-speakers. The microphones are mounted in a sound box, adapted to fit over the reeds on the wind chest, and provided with partitions to divide it into compartments each containing the microphone or microphones for a particular note group. Additionally or alternatively the microphones may be mounted in the wind chest which is then provided with suitable baffles. The microphones or groups of microphones may be connected through individual amplifiers to loud-speakers appropriate to the frequency range to be reproduced. Alternatively, a common amplifier may be used fed from the microphones via buffer amplifiers, and supplying one or more loud-speakers. Gain control and tone control devices may be included in the circuits, the former being suitably coupled to a hand, foot or knee control as a swell device. The organ may be blown by an electrically-operated bellows, air-compressor or fan.
