Abstract

656,464. Recording apparatus. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. Dec. 23, 1947, Nos. 33998 and 33999. Convention dates, Jan. 9 and May 19. [Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Group XX] A plurality of phenomena are photographically recorded simultaneously by several cathode-ray tubes (C1, C2, Fig. 2) arranged obliquely to one another so that the axes of the tubes intersect a movable sensitized support (T) on a straight line at right angles to the direction of movement of the support. A time base is provided by photographing sparks spaced by equal intervals of time (Fig. 3, not shown). The deflector plates of the C.R.T. at right angles to those in use in connection with the phenomena to be recorded are employed to deflect the spot out of the field of the photographic lens, until required, by applying a suitable voltage thereto. By cutting off or short-circuiting this voltage source, the spot is brought into recording position. A switch device for this purpose comprises a stationary contact A1 Fig. 7, co-operating with contacts A and B turning about a pivot pin 4 for a camera shutter 3, Fig. 6. An eccentric pin 10 reciprocates a stepped plunger 11 in time with the phenomenon to be recorded (e.g. pressuretime diagram of an internal-combustion engine). A short rod 14 pivoted to the shutter 3 is slidably supported by a vertical rod 17 which, before recording commences, is lifted by a knurled knob 20 against the bias of a spring 21 and supported in an upper position by rotating a second knurled knob 24 so that a recess 23 is out of register with a pin 22 in the upper knob. This brings the short rod 14 to the dotted position with its right-hand end clear of the reciprocating plunger 11. When the knob 24 is operated to release the vertical rod 17, the plunger 11 strikes the end of the short rod 14 and a predetermined time in its cycle and so provides a period of recording between the time that the contact A, Fig. 7, leaves A1 and the arrival of contact B. The aperture 7 of the shutter 3 co-operates with a fixed aperture 2, and the shutter is arrested by a rubber stop 8. Modifications suggested include a remote control for release of the vertical rod 17 and for resetting the shutter 3. The contacts A, B may be mounted on the short rod 14 for co-operation with a fixed contact.
