Abstract
655,670. Motor vehicle hydraulic transmission and steering arrangements. JOY MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 8, 1947, Nos. 22052 and 22053. Convention dates, Feb. 13, 1941, and May 21, 1941. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXI] In a mining machine having a portable base adapted to travel over the floor of the mine, there is provided power operated propelling means, power operated steering means, and mechanism for controlling the supply of motive power from a source of motive power to both of said power operated means, said mechanism including a control device for controlling the supply of power to said steering means, a control device tor controlling the supply of power to said propelling means, and means whereby the operation of said steering control device for supplying power to said steering means will prevent the supply of motive power from said source to said propelling means. The axles of the front ground wheels are mounted in frames pivotally secured to the chassis, the setting of the frames being controlled by motors 11 and each wheel is driven by a motor 105 through a dual speed gear box and suitable shafting. The rear road wheels. 3 are used for steering, each being mounted in a carrier 191 that rotates about a vertical shaft 163 mounted at the outer ends of a transverse beam 160 that is pivotally secured to the chassis and adjustably locked relative to said chassis by a motor 12. Steering is done by a motor 168 acting through a linkage 165, 166 on each axle carrier. A motor 9 drives two liquid pumps, one a high capacity pump 214 and the other a low capacity pump 213. The pump 214 delivers into a manual valve from which flow may be directed back to the sump 215 or, depending on its setting, to motors 105 to drive them in one direction or the other. The low capacity pump 214 feeds a manually operated valve chest 10 which controls the various operating motors of the machine and in addition may be used to supply fluid to motors 105 in conjunction with pump 214, or when valve 221 is closed, may supply power to these motors alone. The supply from this low capacity pump is delivered into a chamber 251 of the multiple valve box 10 containing a plurality of two-way valves. From this chamber 251 the fluid is delivered into three supply passages 246, 256, and 254. The box is divided into two sections by a block 545 and liquid can be supplied to the right-hand side of the box, which also has three supply passages 246a, 256a, and 254a, through the passages 256 and 546 only as long as any valve on the left-hand side, other than valve 244, is not supplying liquid to the motor which it controls. Exhaust passages 258, 257 pass through each block to a chamber 252 connected to the reservoir. The valve 239 can direct fluid to the motors 105 by valve 248. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an alternative valve chest assembly which forms part of the subject-matter of Specification 655,717, [Group XXI], which is referred to. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
