Abstract

654,892. Counting-apparatus. METROPOLITAN VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 4, 1948, No. 20597. [Class 106 (i)] Small undulations or corrugations, such as the edges of a stepped stack of sheet material 1, are counted by drawing an electromechanical pick-up device 2 over them, scaling down the impulses from the. pick-up 2 by means of an electronic counting-down circuit and applying the scaled-down impulses to an electromagnetic counter, e.g. of the telephone call meter type. An amplitude-limiter is preferably included in the pick-up output to discriminate against impulses due to surface roughness of the material. In Fig. 2 the output is applied by an adjustable potentiometer P1 and through a scratch filter R2-C1 to an amplifier V1. The amplified output is passed through a diode limiter V2, which passes pulses of amplitude above the level pre-set by a potentiometer P2, to a further amplifier V3. After D.C. restoration by V4, the pulses are passed through a pulse shaper to the counting-down circuit which operates the electromagnetic counter. Interpolation of the counter readings may be given by neon indicators controlled by the counting- down circuit.
