Abstract
653,855. Protective covers for hose couplings. BRITISH TYRE & RUBBER CO., Ltd., BEASLEY, T. A., and BOWDEN, W. March 31, 1948, Nos. 9142 and 28729. [Class 99(i) and 99(ii)] In a fire-resisting hose, especially for use in aircraft, having a metallic coupling at each or either end and a fire-resisting sleeve 5 fitted over the coupling where it is attached to the hose, an air space or air spaces are provided between the sleeve and the coupling. The hose is retained between a ferrule 4 and an insert 2, and the sleeve elastically grips the ferrule or is retained thereon by a clip or binding means. The sleeve comprises a layer of asbestos fabric or cord &c. surrounded by rubber, and an inner layer of rubber may be added. The rubber may contain a filler of asbestos. The air spaces preferably communicate with the atmosphere and may be provided between the sleeve and coupling. The spaces are formed by grooves &c. in the inner layer which extend axially, circumferentially or helically. Alternatively bosses are provided on the sleeve, which may be of truncated conical or pyramid form. Specifications 540,489, 540,490, 540,491, 540,492, 610,426 and 634,405, are referred to.
