Abstract
653,562. Ice-cream freezers. CHERRY-BURRELL CORPORATION. Jan. 22, 1948, Nos. 1980 and 1981. Convention dates, Feb. 23, 1940 and March 9, 1940. [Class 29] [Also in Group II] Mixing apparatus for ice-cream freezers comprises an outer rotary cage-like agitator 67 carrying blades 66 adapted to direct material to an inner rotary agitator 97, and an intermediate agitator 90 of cage-like construction, tnere being relative rotation between the outer and intermediate agitators. Ice-cream mix is supplied by pumps 32, 33 together with air or gas through a pipe 37 to the freezing cylinder 36 surrounded by concentric refrigerant jackets 43, 44 connected with refrigerant supply and discharge passages 45, 46. A driving shaft 34 extends through the rear of the freezing cylinder with a spring-pressed seal 53 and is keyed to the outer agitating and scraping element 67 and to the inner agitator 97. The outer agitator comprises a cylinder 67 with four rows of apertures 71 and studs 72 over which take keyhole slots 76 in the scraper blades 66 the rear edges of which are serrated and inclined to the plane of the blade at 79 to direct frozen material through the adjacent apertures 71. The blade is flexible and has a hole 77 taking over a stud 75 at the end of the agitator 67 to prevent endwise movement of the blade. The front ends of the outer and inner agitators are rotatably mounted on a stud shaft 84 extending from a fixed spider 60 with an aperture 59 through which the frozen cream issues to a delivery nozzle. The bars 90 of the fixed intermediate agitator are secured to a spider rigid with the stud shaft 84. Discs 94, 102 brace the bars 90, 97 of the intermediate and inner beaters and act as baffle elements. The front of the freezer is removable by bolts 58, and by disconnecting the shaft 34 the agitators &c. may be removed for cleaning. The inner agitator may comprise a solid triangular element. Specification 653,563 and U.S.A. Specifications 1,907,486 and 2,132,932 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a form in which the intermediate agitator is omitted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
