Abstract
652,900. Load-handling machines. JONES, A. H. G., JAMES, A. E., WHEELER, W. P., and HOLBROOK, R. E. June 15, 1948, No. 16117. [Class 78 (iii)] The level of the top of a pile of planks K on a mobile lift bench is maintained at a constant datum level by a pivoted switch arm M which, when a plank is removed, is lowered and closes a switch which causes the bench top to rise until the top of the pile returns to the datum level and, when a plank is added, is raised and closes another switch which effects lowering of the bench top until the top of the pile is again at the datum level. The bench consists of a plate A supported on a pair of X linkages C which are extended and contracted by rotation of a shaft F coupled through a worm gear H with a reversible motor G and having left and right-hand threaded portions R, S which engage nuts secured to the linkage connecting cross members P, Q.
