Abstract

651,378. Transmitters. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. Oct. 28, 1948, No. 28010. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1947. [Class 40 (iv)] In a carbon-granule telephone transmitter, the granules are contained in a chamber between a domed movable electrode 21 and a fixed electrode 27 having a frusto-conical surface 28, the two electrodes being nearest to one another in the intermediate region A, Fig. 3, rather than at the ends B, C. A further frusto-conical surface 29 of greater slope than the surface 28 is provided on an adjoining insulating ring 26, so that the granule chamber is restricted in the region D. In a modification, Fig. 2, the granule chamber is bounded partly by an annular member 36 of flexible insulating material, such as silk.
