Abstract

648,383. Tableting and briquetting machines. SKODA WORKS, NATIONAL CORPORATION. April 15, 1947, No. 10033. Convention date, April 27, 1946. [Class 87 (ii)] A tableting machine comprises a horizontal stationary disc or table containing a plurality of moulds or dies arranged in a circle about a vertical axis, a pair of upper and lower mandrels movable in a vertical direction only and cooperating with each mould, and cam means rotating about the vertical axis to actuate successively all the pairs of mandrels. A rotor 7 is provided on its outside with upper and lower circumferential cam grooves 28 and with circumferential cam surfaces 25, 26, on upper and lower flanges respectively, and is driven by an electric motor 2 through a safety coupling 4, a worm shaft 3, and a worm wheel 5. Upper spindles 14 carrying mandrels 15, and lower spindles 9 carrying mandrels 16, are guided in carrier plates 13, 8, and perform pressing and ejecting operations respectively in a vertical direction according to the rise or fall of rollers 12 and ball-shaped pulleys 27 engaging the cam grooves and surfaces respectively of the rotor. A rotary filling arm 21 attached to the rotor, and having a feeding device 22, extends through an aperture in the rotor to discharge material from a fixed hopper 20 into stationary exchangeable dies or moulds 17. In operation the material is introduced into the hopper 20 where it is mixed by the device 22 and is advanced by gravity and centrifugal force into the arm 21. The discharge mouth of the arm is aligned with the die openings, passing over them when the mandrel 15 is lifted and the lower mandrel is in its lowered position, so that the die 17 is filled. During its rotary motion the filling arm fills successively one die after another. When the space 17 has been filled the continuous rotation of the rotor 7 results in a downward pressing motion of the spindle 14, and on further rotation of the rotor the spindle 14 rises together with the mandrel 16, the surface of the latter coming into alignment with the plane of the disc 18, lifting the pressed tablet to the level of the surface of the disc to be swept into a shoot 24 by a rotary arm 23. The press may be provided with any suitable number of dies and co-operating mandrels.
