Abstract

647,364. Refrigerators; cold and heat retaining vessels. AIRSCREW CO., and JICWOOD, Ltd. April 23, 1948, No. 11241. [Classes 29 and 64(ii)] [Also in Group XVII] A transport container for biological &c. specimens comprises an inner casing 1 removably fitted in an outer casing 2 with interposed insulation 4 and closed by a stopper or cork 7 with spaced holes in which are inserted tubular holders 8 for test tubes &c. 9. The inner casing 1 is removed, filled with water, the stopper 7 with the holders inserted into its open end, and then placed in a refrigerator to freeze the water, whereupon the casing 1 is placed in the outer casing 2 and the test-tubes &c. inserted in the tubular holders 8. An insulated lid 10 secured by catches 11 has a resilient pad 16 of sponge rubber which bears on the stopper 7 to keep it in place. The insulation 4 of both casing and lid is in the form of slabs, some of which are cored out to take the inner casing 1 and the stopper 7. The tubular holders 8 are secured in holes 26 in the stopper and nave pads 27 of soft rubber; the test-tubes 3 are protected by elastic bands 28. The catches 11 may be replaced by spring-loaded fingers taking in slots in a beading formed on the peripheral rim of the outer casing. which then reaches above the top of the inner casing, providing a space for a separrate insulation plug or block. A carrying strap 29 is flxed to the outer casing. Fig. 5 shows a fastener for the lid 21 comprising spring fingers 22 the outer ends of which pass through slots 23 in a beading 24, the inner ends being locked by turning a fastener 25 with a helical slot 31 engaging a spring 32 anchored to the lid 24.
