Abstract

3-Aryl-tropan-3-ols are obtained by treating tropanone with an aryl lithium compound and hydrolysing the product. The aryl radical may contain alkyl and alkoxy substituents. The bases may be converted into salts, or, by the action of alkyl or aralkyl halides, methosulphates or other reactive acid salts, into quaternary salts. Examples show the production of 3-phenyltropan-3-o1 and its hydrochloride and methiodide.
