Abstract

641,383. Moulding sliding-clasp fasteners. WINTERHALTER, M. Feb. 6, 1948, No. 3539. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A mould for moulding or casting a slider for a sliding clasp fastener, including movable cores for forming the substantially Y-shaped passage and a further movable core for forming in the attaching member a hole to receive a pull member, is characterized in that all the cores are movable in substantially parallel directions. The slider to be cast comprises parallel wings 1, 2 with inturned edges 3, 4, connected by a portion 5 of triangular section. On top of the wing 1 is an attaching member 6 formed with a hole 7 for securing a pull member to the slider. The member 6 is open at one end and at the other is formed with a recess 9 which serves to anchor an end of a leaf-spring if the slider is of the self-locking type. The mould comprises a lower part 11, Fig. 6, with a cavity 13 defining the exterior shape of the wing 2 and an upper part 10 with a cavity 12 defining the exterior shape of the wing 1 and member 6. Two cooperating core units 14 and 15 provided for forming the Y-shaped passage, may be inserted into and withdrawn from the mould by movement in the longitudinal direction of the slider to be cast. An additional core 25 secured to or integral with the core 14 forms the recess 9 when required and an additional core 24 secured to or integral with the core 17, forms the hole 7 between the attaching member 6 and the wing 1. The core 14 is formed with two projecting parts 16, Fig. 7, for forming the divergent arms of the Y-channel and the core 17 has a co-operating portion 18 with a V-shaped recess defining the inner end of the connecting member 5. Molten metal or a plastic in liquid form may be introduced under pressure through a channel 26 in the mould part 10 after the mould has been heated. As shown in Fig. 9, a number of moulds 31 may be arranged side-by-side in two relatively-inclined lines and fed from a main inlet 34 by distributing channels 35. The cores 14 and 15 are secured to common members 32 and 33 for simultaneous movement. The assembly includes moulds 37 for casting the pull members to be secured to the sliders. In a modification the moulds are arranged side-by-side along an arc.
