Abstract

A method of producing pre-amalgamated metal alloys, suitable for use in preparing amalgams especially for dental purposes, comprises heat treating the alloys prior to the pre-amalgamation and while they are in granular, powdered or similar state, the heat treatment conditions being such as to effect dissolution and diffusion of the alloy phases, thereby allowing a mercury containing preparation to effect a uniformly distributed attack on the alloys during pre-amalgamation. The treatment of silvertin alloys is referred to, which alloys may contain other elements such as copper and zinc.
