Abstract

[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXIII] A machine for sealing glass ampoules or the like includes a conveyer comprising a rotary carrier 24 the thickened rim 30 of which is slotted to receive radially adjustable V-blocks 32 which are clamped by screws 33. The blocks are adjusted so that the ampoules t extend slightly beyond the rim of the carrier and are thus retained in position by arcuate, stationary, guide sections 36, 36a, 37, 38. The bottoms of the ampoules rest upon a stationary, vertically adjustable circular track 11a. The sections 36, 38 are spaced slightly from the carrier 24 and do not press upon the ampoules, but the section 36a is pivoted at one end 36b to the track 11a, and is pressed inwardly at the other end by a spring, so that the ampoules are held as they pass towards the heating- zone h. At the heating-zone, they are held more firmly by the section 37 which is pivoted at 39 in a radially adjustable block 40, clamped by screws 41, and is forced towards the carrier by a plunger 42 slidable in the block 40 and acted upon by a spring 43. The inward movement of the section 37 is limited by an abutment 44. The ampoules are sealed (see Group XXIII) whilst held by the section 37 from which they are delivered to the section 38 which has a tangential extension parallel to a stationary wallmember 46. A finger 45 at the end of the wall 46 projects into a peripheral groove in the rim 30, the blocks 32 being grooved to preserve the continuity of the peripheral groove. The finger 45 thus removes the ampoules from the V-notches and guides them into the space between the walls 48, 46. The ampoules are prevented from falling over by a sliding block member 106, having ribs 107 of different widths, a rib being selected for insertion between the walls 48, 46 according to the adjustment of the wall 46 by the means 50, 51.
