Abstract
640,341. Composite sheet metal bar &c. elements. HOLT, W. B. P., (formerly HORRWITZ, W. B. P.) (Paulssen, O. G. F.). Dec. 5, 1946, No. 6205/49. Divided out of 640,246. [Class 20(ii)] Composite elongated structural elements of bent sheet metal having a crosssection including a corner opening into a space having a cross-section of open form, i.e. not enclosed by parts of the element, are stiffened in the region of this corner by an elongated box-section formation. Two or more such corners may be so stiffened. Fig. 1 shows an angle bar stiffened at the angle by a boxsection 37 formed between the two members 34, 35 of the element which are secured together by plane face to face joints. Fig. 3 shows a composite element of basically I-section, the various members 38, 39 being secured by plane face to face joints and so shaped as to provide boxsections 41 in the corner regions of the section. Further strengthening box-sections may be formed perpendicular to the length of an element, as shown in Fig. 5 by providing indentations 42, 43 in the parts of members of the element facing other parts.
