Abstract

Glands, e.g. piston washers for inflator pumps, are moulded from polyvinyl chloride, flaked graphite and one or more plasticizers, e.g. dibutyl phthalate of "Iranolin" (Registered Trade Mark). The maximum amount of polyvinyl chloride in the mix is 45 per cent, and a substantially equal amount of plasticizer is present. A proportion of 20-30 per cent of these combined weights is graphite and 2.5 per cent may be a stabilizer, e.g. lead carbonate. Specification 598,001, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
