Abstract

638,280. Burglar and like alarms. EISNER, H. Jan. 10, 1947, No. 946. [Class 118 (i)] In an electric burglar-alarm system, operated by forcing a door or the like, means are provided whereby the system is nullified when the latch of a lock is withdrawn in an authorised manner. On leaving a room or like enclosure by the door A the lock 1 is operated and closes contacts 17. Operation of setting switch 3 now completes the circuit for the setting relay 4 from the supply leads X and Y. This relay then holds via contacts 44 and 17. Contacts 43 close the circuit for the bulb 34 which glows to indicate that the alarm circuit has been set. Should the door now be opened in an unauthorised manner, contacts 25, 26 of the dooroperated switch 2 are bridged and, via contacts 47, complete the circuit of the indicator relay 5 which operates and holds by its contacts 52, the visual indicator 53 also being operated. Contacts 56 close the circuit of the alarm relay 6, which holds via contacts 61, and the alarm bell is rung by contacts 65. If, however, the door is opened by authorised withdrawal of lock 1, the contacts 17 are broken and the relay 4 releases, opening contacts 47 and thereby preventing operation of the alarm. An auxiliary alarm is provided for a second door B in which opening the door while the bolt 9 is closed completes the circuit for relay 5 and hence operates the alarm. A manual resetting switch 55 is provided to break the holding circuit of relay 5, and a similar switch may be provided to reset relay 6. A damage alarm circuit consisting of relay 7 in series with wires 71 is incorporated in the system. Relay 7 is normally operated, holding contacts 72, 73 open. , If the wires 71 are broken, the relay releases and contacts 72 complete the circuit for the visual indicator 74 while contacts 73 operate the alarm relay 6. This circuit may also act as a fire-alarm. The setting switch 3 may be located so that it is automatically operated when a person approaches the means of ingress, for example, a floor switch or photoelectric device. The modification of a pintumbler type lock to be incorporated in the system is also described.
