[Classes 14(ii), 28(i) and 129] A portable container for making or heating beverages is provided with a drinking tube 9 which is released by the melting of a piece 14 whereby the tube 9 is pushed outwards by a spring 10 until restrained in projected position by a flange 11 at its end. The container carries a removable reservoir 32 which is needle-punctured, its liquid then being poured into a central tube 18, and runs through its perforations to react with a substance 22 in a surrounding tube 16. The exothermic reaction heats up the water, &c., 21, which at a certain temperature melts the fusible seal 29 of an essence (tea) container 25 whereby the hot water mixing with it makes the beverage. At a higher temperature the fusible piece 14 melts as above to allow projection of the drinking tube 9. In the device in Fig. 6 the tubular, cartridge 16 carrying at its faucet top the oxidizing liquid holder 32 and puncturing needle 37 can be levered up, e.g., by a coin, and lifted out carrying with it the essence container 25 attached thereto. The bottom 28 of this container, which was secured by fusible metal allowing it to be pushed open by a spring 46, is also lifted out by its attachment to the spring 46. A fresh cartridge 16 with all attachments is then inserted and held by spring claws 24. The container is refilled with water through a plug hole. The drinking tube 9 is pushed back inside and held by a fresh fusible plug 14, Fig. 4. Another form of the device for cyclists, &c., comprises a quick puncturing of the oxidizing liquid chamber, comprising a screw down bar 55 with top spike 56 to perforate the chamber 32. The chamber is also pressed down against bottom spikes 59 to allow the liquid to run down into a number of perforated tubes 18 to distribute the liquid into the reacting substance. In another form (Fig. 10, not shown) steam normally escaping directly at the top is made to travel down a helical tube in the water chamber and so give up its heat before finally being allowed to escape through a spout at the top.
