Abstract
A glass surface is treated with an organosilicon compound having a hydrogen atom and also having one or more siloxy radicals or one or more hydrolysable radicals and a hydrocarbon radical containing a plurality of carbon atoms, attached to a silicon atom of the molecule, the valencies of said silicon atom being satisfied by said radicals. The organosilicon compound may be an organo dihalosilane or a hydrolysis product thereof, e.g. a monoalkyl dichlorosilane or its hydrolysis product. Specified are ethyl-, propyl-, lauryl-, stearyl-dichlorosilanes and their hydrolysis products and the hydrolysis products of phenyl, tolyl and benzyl dichlorosilanes. These compounds are advantaneously applied in the form of a dilute solution in volatile organic solvents such as liquid hydrocarbons, e.g. benzene. Solutions containing as little as 0.01 per cent of the organosilicon compound may be used.ALSO:A glass surface is treated with an organosilicon compound having a hydrogen atom and also having one or more siloxy radicals or one or more hydrolysable radicals and a hydrocarbon radical containing a plurality of carbon atoms attached to a silicon atom of the molecule, the valencies of said silicon atom being satisfied by said radicals. Specified are ethyl, propyl, lauryl, stearyl dichlorosilanes and their hydrolysis products and the hydrolysis products of phenyl, tolyl, and benzyl dichlorosilanes. These compounds are advantageously applied in the form of a dilute solution in volatile organic solvents such as liquid hydrocarbons, e.g. benzene. Solutions containing as little as 0.01 per cent of the organosilicon compound may be used.
