Abstract
635,981. Supports for electric incandescent lamp filaments. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and GOODCHILD, F. D. Oct. 16, 1946, No. 30742. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] Supporting means for the filament structure of a high power electron discharge dedevice or incandescent lamp in which the filaments are arranged in two interspaced sets of three and are secured to spreaders 14, 15 at one end and to a common spreader 19 at the other end, comprises two sets of rods 71, 91 of unequal length secured at one end to the spreaders 14, 15, and at the other end to supports 6, 8 positioned in different planes, the disc support 8 being resilient to permit relative thermal movement of the sets of rods, and the sets of rods are fixed to two platforms 12, 13 which are insulatively locked together so as to prevent differential thermal expansion of the filaments and connectors below the platforms 12, 13. The rods are in two partsone part 7, 9 of copper and the other part 7,1 91, of molybdenum. The filaments 18 are carried from spreaders 14, 15, by anchors 16, 17. The upper end of the structure may provide co-axial cathode leads 1, 4 arranged as described in Specification 573,170, [Group XL]. The disc 8 may be slotted as shown so as to provide greater flexibility. The molybdenum members 19 may be secured together by the member 20 which slides in a collar (not shown) fixed by insulating means to grid support rods (not shown) so as to take up thermal expansion of the cathode structure as a whole. In operation the discharge device is mounted vertically so that the filaments 18 are held in tension under gravity. The Provisional Specification in addition refers to supporting means for a single filament.
