Abstract
635,852. Measuring bridges. DENES, P., ANDREW, A. M., and WELWYN ELECTRICAL LABORATORIES, Ltd. Sept. 15, 1947, No. 25168. [Class 37] To determine whether an electrical component (e.g. capacitance, inductance or resistance) lies between pre-determined limits, it is connected in series with a standard component, and these two components are connected in parallel with two pairs of impedances, the ratio of one pair corresponding to the lower limit, and the ratio of the other pair corresponding to the upper limit, and the phase of the voltage at the junction point of each pair is compared. The invention is described with reference to a system for determining whether a resistance 11 falls within pre-determined limits. An A.C. bridge 11, 12, 13, 14 is such that balance is obtained if resistance 11 is at the lower limit and an A.C. bridge 11, 12, 15, 16 is in balance if the resistance 11 is at the upper limit. If the resistance lies between these limits, the phase between 17 and 18 will be opposite to the phase between 17 and 19 and valve 22 will be non-conductive. If the resistance lies beyond these limits, the phase between 17 and 19 and valve 22 will conduct to actuate relay 23 and light signal lamp 24. Signal lamp 25 is lit if the resistance is within the pre-determined limits.
