[Classes 75 (ii), 75 (iii) and 75 (iv)] A fluorescent lighting fitting comprises an open-bottomed chassis 1 of sheet material having a detachable reflector 2 closing the bottom thereof, a chamber 3 housing auxiliary equipment formed centrally in the chassis with adjoining end sections 5 of reduced size tapering in depth outwardly and expanded laterally at their outer portions to receive lamp sockets 6, and a raised reinforcing rib 9 extending lengthwise of, and of less width than, each end section 5. As shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 10, the reflector 2 is secured to the chassis 1 by means of a rotatable latch member 14 passing through a slot 18 at each end of the reflector, the latch member 14 having a shank 15 the free end of which is urged upwards by a bowed leaf spring 17 held between the limbs of a bracket I fixed to the underside of the top wall of the chassis 1. The fitting may be suspended on chains 23 (Fig. 1) attached at each end of the chassis 1 to a pair of lugs 20 projecting through slots in the top wall thereof, or may be fitted direct to a supporting surface by bolts or screws passing through apertures 28 in the top of the chamber 3. Alternatively grooves 24 may be formed in the side walls of the chamber 3 and the end sections 5 to provide a hold for U-shaped clamps 38 (Fig. 5) carried on the ends of hanger rods 26. Re-inforcing brackets 21 (Fig. 11) are welded to the underside of the chassis at the junction of the end sections 5 and the expanded portions thereof and may be formed with additional mounting lugs 22 which project through the top of the chassis. Fittings may be connected together by means of tie plates 34 (Fig. 13) having lateral corner projections 35 arranged to engage in sockets 36 which are struck up from the top walls of adjacent ends of the fittings, knock-out panels 37 being provided in the end walls of the chassis to provide a wiring passage. Knockout apertures 29 are formed in the top of the end sections 5 to receive electric conduits which may serve as supports. Additional knock-out apertures may be provided in the chassis side walls for the installation of starter units, and a controlling switch operated by a pull chain.
