Abstract
632,863. Xylophones. ZIMMERMAN, H. May 15, 1947, No. 13114. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1942. [Class 88 (ii)] The ends of the sounding bars of a xylophone or the like are passed through openings in the inner walls of two spaced-apart and hollow housings and are supported on flexible elements within or adjacent the housings. A cardboard blank is folded to form the base 13 and housings 11, 12 of a toy xylophone, and is stiffened by end pieces 33, 34. Tubular glass bars 47, inserted through holes 48 of the same diameter as the bars in the outer wall of the housing 12, are passed through the openings 49, 50 in the inner walls of the housings 11, 12, respectively, and are supported on cords 45 mounted on members 43 having cut-outs 44 and glued to the inner walls of the housings. The cords 45 may be mounted on flaps pressed out from the outer walls of the housings. In a modification, the xylophone is formed of two separately folded housings joined by the end-pieces, and is assembled with the bars in position. Thus the holes 48 are rendered unnecessary.
