Abstract
631,756. Electrolytic etching. CROSSLAND, J. A., and CROSSLAND, E. M., (trading as LOCKETT, CROSSLAND, & CO.). April 11, 1947, No. 9739. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 21, 1947.] [Class 41] A method of controlling the depth of engraving in an electrolytic engraving bath comprises restraining a current-interrupting device by means which is subjected to an electrolytic action, the same as or proportional to that which effects the engraving, and which is such as to become inoperative and thereby release the current-interrupting means when the desired depth of electrolytic action has taken place. As shown, a metal strip B, supported in a bath K, is under tension. by means of a spring R which is connected to a blade L. During engraving of a plate C the blade L connects two contacts P, A in the electrolytic circuit. The depth of engraving is controlled by the strip B which is eventually reduced in size, so that it is broken by the tension of the spring R. The contacts A, P are then disconnected so that the circuit of the plate C is broken. Contacts G, H are then connected, whereby a circuit is complete to actuate an electric bell S. The invention is applicable also in the case where the article to be engraved is a rotating printing roller, only part of which is immersed in the bath at a time, the control member being also similarly mounted and rotated.
