Abstract

629,980. Fluorscent lamp fittings. ELECTROLUMINATION, Ltd., and ALDRIDGE, J. F. July 22, 1947, No. 19666. [Classes 75(ii) and 75(iv)] A fluorescent lamp fitting comprises an elongated body moulded in plaster and fitted at each end with electrical connection devices for supporting the caps of a tubular electric discharge lamp. As shown a shallow trough-shaped plaster body 11 is extended in depth at each end to form housings 13, 14 having sloping, inwardly facing walls 15, 16, apertured as at 17 to receive the end parts of tubular lamps 10 which engage in lampholders 18 within said housings 13, 14. The intermediate portion 12 of the body 11 is formed with shallow grooves 24 one above each lamp 10 to serve as a reflector; the surface of the grooves may be coated with whitening material. Longitudinal wooden laths 19 embedded in the edges of the plaster strengthen the body 11 and provide anchorages for transverse bars 20, 21 by which the lamp fitting is secured to ceiling brackets 22, 23. Lamp auxiliaries 25, 26, 27 may be fitted in the trough of the body 11 and the lamps 10 may be supported at their centres by transverse straps or cleats (not shown). Hair, canvas, or other fibrous substances may be incorporated in the plaster.
