Abstract
628,679. Jointing ; powder metallurgy. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Aug. 6, 1947, No. 21430. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1946. Drawings to Specification. [Class 83 (iv)] In a method of forming a fluid-tight joint by molecular diffusion, an outer moulded part of pressed metal powder is assembled on an inner metal part and heated to a temperature which favours molecular diffusion. The diffusion is assisted by the pressure exerted by the outer part, which shrinks on heating, and also by the fact that the inner surface of this part is hardened by compression on a core during the moulding operation. In an example an outer cylinder of moulded copper powder is assembled over a cylinder of an alloy known under the Registered Trade Mark " Kovar " and heated in a hydrogen atmosphere for one to two hours at 800-900‹ C.
