628,490. Measures of length. STUTCH. BURY, C. P. Dec. 7, 1946, No. 36226. [Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] An instrument for dividing a straight line into a number of equal parts, which may also be used for measuring lengths, comprises a disc 1, Fig. 2, of transparent material having a plurality of spiral slots 6 of uniform width therein, the spirals commencing at equallyspaced intervals along a base-line and being bounded by a circle of which the base-line is a radius, the spirals being spaced so that any radius of the circle is equally intersected by all the spirals through which it passes. The distances apart of the spirals along particular radii are marked on the periphery of the disc as shown in Fig. 7, and lengths may be measured by means of these spiral spacings.
