[Class 135] [Also in Group XXXIII] In a remotely-controlled power-operated system for actuating aircraft control surfaces in which motion is transmitted from the pilot's control column 1, Fig. 1, through a mechanical or electrical linkage to a servo-mechanism 7 for actuating the control surface 8, means is provided for displacing the input member of the servo-mechanism relative to the pilot's control column in order to adjust the control point. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the control column 1, with centralising springs 19, 20 to give " feel," acts on a sun wheel 9 of a differential gear, and the other sun wheel 10 is connected through a chain 6 to the servo-mechanism 7. The planet carrier 11 can be adjusted from a hand-crank 15 through a chain 16 and a worm and worm-wheel 13, 12, respectively. When hand-crank 15 is actuated, the greater resistance of the input 9 of the differential ensures that the motion of the planet carrier is communicated to the input of the servomechanism. Where an electrical link comprising transmitting and receiving selsyns 21, 22, Fig. 2, respectively, are interposed between the control column 1, and the servo-mechanism, column 1 rotates about the shaft of selsyn 21 and carries round the worm 23 which engages a worm-wheel 24 fast on the selsyn shaft and which can be rotated from the hand-crank 15 through a flexible cable 25. In a modification, the worm-wheel 24 actuates a differential selsyn interposed between the transmitting and receiving selsyns. According to the Provisional Specification, the movement of the control surface is transmitted back to one wheel of the differential gear interposed between the transmitting station and the servo-mechanism, and the slave element of the latter controls a variable delivery hydraulic generator supplying a hydraulic motor or ram.
