[Class 54] A dry gasometer of the piston type is characterised in that the piston is wholly constructed as a deformable shell. As shown in Fig. 1, a guide column g is provided at its top with a tube m which leads to the atmosphere, the tube communicating, by means of a channel k in the roof, with the interior of the holder and serving to ventilate the space above the piston b. The space between the tube m and the column g has an outlet to atmosphere and communicates with the interior of the holder by means of holes p in the guide column, thus allowing escape of gas and pressure relief when the piston rises to the top of the holder. On its outer edge the piston is provided with a, sealing-strip e, Fig. 2, lying against the wall of the holder. The space under the holder is ventilated through apertures' r in the guide column. Guides c and d are provided for the piston.
