625,709. Pile shoes. COBI, W. H., and DOUGHERTY, J. J. May 7, 1947, No. 12352. Convention date, Oct. 3, 1945. [Class 68 (ii)] A metallic pile shoe has a seat 7 at its upper surface for the lower end of the pile 8, and a recess 14 with an arched wall 13 terminating in a cutting edge 9 beneath the seat for drawing in and compressing soil in the recess. The inclined wall 10 serves to centre and frictionally receive the pile tube and together with the outer flange 11 forms a groove 12 into which the end of the tube 8 is fitted, and if desired the latter is welded to the Range 11. The pile may be of any cross-section, e.g. circular, corrugated, or fluted, and the shoe is similarly shaped, and may have a serrated or toothed cutting edge 15. The wall 13 is preferably given a parabolic curve.
