Abstract

625,222. Pencil sharpeners. LJUNGGREN, I. G. A. June 17, 1947, No. 15918. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1944. [Class 146 (iii)] In a pencil-sharpener having a signalling device actuated by the point of the pencil through the intermediary of a member which is arranged on a rotating part of the machine and co-operates with stationary parts, the member is so arranged that the forces exerted thereon act peripherally perpendicular to the feeding direction of the pencil. A, two-part hood 1, 3 encloses a rotating sharpener 11 having a conical recess 12 provided with a groove 14 beside which is a knife 15 consisting of a toothed rim. The member 11 is fixed to a shaft 19 rotated by a crank 20. The signalling device comprises a bell 25 secured in the frame 1, and a clapper 26 comprising a resilient piece of sheet-metal riveted to a resilient tongue 29 actuated by the pencil point 13 when the sharpening is completed. The spring 33 normally keeps the signalling mechanism in the inoperative position. In modifications, the circuit to an electromagnetic bell is closed by the point of the pencil or a lamp lights up.
