[Class 39(iii)] [Also in Groups VI and XXXVII] A coffee percolator has a small chamber 5 adjacent a main liquid container 2 and communicating with it at its lower end, one or more conduits 6 leading from the chamber 5 into the upper end of container 2, there being an electric heating element 10 mounted on an exterior wall of the chamber 5 which is annular and extends around the container 2 whereby the liquid in the chamber 5 heats up more quickly than that in the container 2, and passes by convection up the conduits 6, through holes 7 in the container 2, and over a coffee basket 8 to mix with the main liquid. The container 2 is removably mounted in a casing 1, and to its lower face 3 is secured a casting 13 embodying an outlet 14. Secured to the casting 13 is a liquidcharged bellows 16, a pip 17 on the casting container 2 to the bellows 16, upon expansion of which an adjustable stud 18 operates a snap-action switch 21 to bring into circuit a series auxiliary resistance to lower the rate of heating and maintain simmering. A bimetal strip may replace the bellows 16. The wall of container 2 is comprised of inner and outer shells 2a, 2b, chamber 5, and conduits 6, being formed respectively by insetting the bottom of shell 2a at 4, and providing longitudinal grooves on its inner surface.
