[Class 146 (i)] In a vertical, card index having separators 1 with spacing devices attached to their upper side wings 3, the spacing devices comprise substantially cylindrical bodies 5, either fixed or rotary, of a diameter corresponding to the distance,between the separators at their pivotal centres at the bottom of the card index drawer, the spacing devices being secured to the wings 3 with their axes horizontal and so that their curved surfaces project from both sides of the separators. In one construction, Fig. 1, for rotatably securing the devices to the separators, the roller 5 is supported by a pivot 6 with projections 9 either side which are secured to the sides of a slot 4 in the wing 3. In another construction, the pivot for the roller 5 is secured to an extension of the wing at right-angles to it and in a further construction the pivot has tongues on one side only which are secured to the edge of the wing. In a construction, Fig. 17, for fixedly securing the devices to the separators, a cylindrical body 18 has extensions 20 and a diametral groove 19 runs through the body 18 and extensions 20 into which the wing 3 is inserted and secured to the extensions.
