[Class 69 (iii)] A machine for spraying insecticides comprises a fan 15 of the axial flow type mounted at the rear of a machine so as to drive an air current forwards through a conical deflector 30, and arched guide vanes 36, whereby the air is 'discharged substantially at right angles to the fan axis, spraying nozzles arranged in groups adjacent to the air discharge from the deflectors, the delivery of solution through the spraying nozzles being controlled so that the spray may be directed to either or both sides of the machine. The fan 15, mounted at the rear of the machine, is enclosed in a guide tunnel 21 within which adjustable deflectors 22 are pivotally supported at their extremities by spindles 23. The conical deflector vane 30 and the arched guide vanes 36 cause the air to be discharged at right angles to the fan axis. The deflectors 22 are operated by bars 39 coupled by a crank 40 to corresponding crank at the front of the machine. The fan 15 is driven by an engine 47 which also drives a pump 50, a clutch 61 being provided so that the fan may be disconnected from the engine if desired. A relief valve 65 is provided for returning surplus liquid back to the tank and two three-way cocks 66 and 68 are also provided, the first for diverting the pump delivery back to the tank or to the nozzle and the second for drawing liquid from the tank or from an outside source for filling purposes. Normally, liquid is pumped along a delivery tube 52 with a branch 53 to two sets of feed pipes 54, controlled by valves 55, each of these pipes feeding one group or section of the spraying nozzles 56. The nozzles are arranged in rows upon horizontal extensions of four feed pipes 54 on each side. Each nozzle may be arranged at any suitable angle. Two other groups of nozzles 56 are arranged along an arched pipe 54', these nozzles being directed forwardly. In a modification, the fan and pump may be driven by the engine of a tractor vehicle, and the solution may be forced out of the tank by compressed air. Specification 588,592 is referred to.
