Abstract
621,577. Motor driving arrangements. SOC. D'APPLICATION DES BREVETS COTAL. July 12, 1946, No. 20950. Convention date, Jan. 12, 1945. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXIV] In a geared motor unit in which the motor and variable-speed gears are housed in a single casing structure and separated by a flange supporting the motor driving shaft, the transmission includes at least two trains of preselector epicyclic gears selectively engaged by the action of electromagnetic clutches. As shown, a reversing gear 65, 68, 69 is interposed between the motor shaft 4 and an intermediate shaft 41, the output shaft 13 being driven through two sets of epicyclic gears each controlled by a pair of electromagnets acting alternatively on an armature disc. Secured to the shaft 4<SP>1</SP> are a sun-gear 14 and an electromagnet 20. An outer, internally toothed wheel 15 carries the armature disc 16 and is free to rotate on this shaft, but may be made to rotate with the shaft by energizing electromagnet 20 or rendered stationary by an electromagnet 21 fixed to the machine casing 7. Planet-wheels 17 are mounted on a cage 19 which is rotatably mounted on the output shaft 13 and carries a further internally toothed gear 22. Rigidly fixed to the shaft 13 is a cage 27 carrying planet-wheels 25 which engage the outer gear 22-and an inner sun-wheel 23. This wheel is rotatable on the shaft 13 and fixed to a second armature disc 24 so that it may be held stationary or made to rotate with the shaft by energizing magnets 28 or 29 respectively. By selective energization of these magnets, four speeds are obtained. The reversing gear comprises a sun-gear 65 and an electromagnet 64 mounted rigidly on the motor shaft 4, and an armature 67 carrying the double planet gears 68 is freely rotatable on this shaft. The armature 67 may be held stationary or be caused to rotate with the motor shaft by energizing electromagnet 64 or 65 respectively, and by this means the internally-toothed gear 69 attached to the shaft 4<SP>1</SP> may be made to rotate in either direction. A stationary magnet 71 is adapted to act as a brake on an armature 70 fixed, in this arrangement, to the shaft 41. In a modification, the brake may act on the shaft 13. In Fig. 6 which shows a circuit diagram for controlling an arrangement having a reversing gear, the controller 75 for operating the gear-box is fed with D.C. from a transformer and rectifier 73, 74. The motor control relay 76, 77 with manual controls 78, 79 is fed from a further secondary winding on the transformer. If a reversible motor is used, the reverse gear is dispensed with and the control circuit has a reversing relay. A pump for circulating oil from a sump is described and the clutch surfaces are lined with friction material as described in Specifications 591,091 and 598,968, [both in Group XXIV].
