Abstract

620,039. Cleaning floors &c. TRIPP, G. E. March 7, 1946, No. 7141. [Class 138(i)] In an apparatus for scrubbing and cleaning floors, of the kind comprising a housing 1, a rotating driven cylindrical brush 2, preferably rotatable about a horizontal axis within the housing and adapted to rub the floor during rotation, a container 6 for water or a cleaning solution, means for feeding the liquid on to the brush, an endless driven belt 9 for mopping and drying the floor cleaned by the brush, means to guide the belt over the floor adjacent the brush, and means, such as a handle 1b to move the apparatus over the floor, an air blower is mounted in the housing and driven by an electric motor 5 which drives the brush and belt, an outlet nozzle 14 from the blower being disposed behind the belt to direct drying air on to the floor after passage thereover of the belt, a rubber squeegee 13 may be provided to remove excess moisture. The brush contacts solid soap 3 in a container 4. The liquid is fed to the brush by means of a hand-controlled regulating gate 11 and perforation 6a in the container 6. The belt is guided on rollers 10 and passes between spring- loaded rollers 12 to return surplus moisture to the container. The motor 5 drives the blower fan, and also the brush through a belt 5a, and the belt through a further belt 10b and roller 10a. The container is filled from an opening 8. The motor may be mounted adjacent the brush, and two brushes may be driven in opposite directions, both fed with liquid or one acting as a dry scrubber. Means may be provided to heat the liquid in the container 6, which may be constructed to prevent escape of liquid on tilting the apparatus. Part of the housing may be removable to facilitate cleaning of the apparatus. According to the Provisional Specification the air blown may be hot or cold, and the apparatus may be constructed of smaller size to scrub shelves, benches, tables, and the like.
